Switzerland hiking trip blog

Day 1:

We got off the plane, tired as usual, and went to a train in the airport. We took the train to Gstaad where we went to a hotel. My dad and I swam and took showers after. After that we took a short nap and then it was time for dinner. I got a delicious meat salad for a starter, steak for my main, and a yummy crème brûlée for dessert. After this we went to bed to get ready for our hike tomorrow

Day 2:

We woke up and headed down to breakfast, which was good but I had taken my anyibiotics before I ate, which wasn’t too good for my stomach. After I began feeling better, we got on a bus to go to the trail head. We hiked for 8 miles until we made it to a gondola, which we rode down to get the out next town, Lenk. We headed to our next hotel and got ready in our rooms. My dad and I headed down to the pool again for a refreshing swim. After the swim, we all got ready for dinner. The dinner was delicious! It had 6 courses including a cheese buffet, which was amazing. After dinner we all headed to bed to get enough rest for our long hike coming the next day.

Day 3:

Day 3 began with a breakfast in the room since we needed to start the day early. We began our hike with a bus ride to the trail head to start our trek up the steep mountain. The hike was very long and extremely steep. Once I made it to the top of the mountain, I took a very long rest and had a snack before coming down to meet up with my parents, who did not decide to go to the peak of the mountain. We all headed down the mountain into a small village to our next hotel. We all got situated and my dad and I went to the sauna. After the sauna we headed to dinner, which was delicious. After dinner we all took a small walk around the town and then headed to bed.

Day 4:

Our day started with a delicious breakfast where I had the most airy croissant ever. Our hike began with us promptly getting lost on a hill. After finding our way again, we started up a steep mountain which ended in a small valley covered by loose rocks and snow on the sides, both of which we had to walk across. After this, we began a decent to a hut where we stopped for a snack. After the hut, we continued on to meet up with a cable car to take us into Kandersteg. We took a bus from the bottom of the cable car to our hotel where we had a delicious buffet dinner and then went up to our rooms to sleep.

Day 5:

Day 5 started with a delicious buffet breakfast at our hotel. After our breakfast me moved onto the hike. We had decided to go the easier route today because we were all tired from previous days. The hike was relatively flat and simple. We all had a pleasant hike and eventually made it to the place where we would be picked up by a bus, however, the bus was not going to arrive for a while, so a kind lady offered to drive us to our hotel, after my dad helped her move some umbrellas. When we made it to the hotel, we all got settled in and comfortable laying down on our beds. However, this comfort did not last long as I quickly found a tick had latched onto my leg. My mom helped me remove the tick and it was all ok in the end.

Day 6:

This day started like usual, a delicious buffet breakfast to prepare for our hike. This hike began on a moderately steep road leading to a steep trail made of scree and snow. After the hike up the steep trail, I waited at the summit for my parent to catch up. Once they caught up we continued down the mountain to a hut where I had a yummy banana milkshake. After we left the hut it began to rain. We hiked through the rain, descending quite steeply, and all got soaked. Once I made it to a small hut I sat out of the rain to wait for my mom and dad. My dad however had taken the wrong trail and took awhile to arrive. I had to wait for a long time for him, but he eventually came. After my dad arrived we continued our hike into Mürren and eventually all arrived at our hotel. We all went up to our room to take showers and get comfortable as we were very tired. After some relaxing, we all went down to the restaurant for some delicious dinner and then went to bed.

Day 7:

When we woke up on our second to last day, we all very quickly noticed that it was very overcast. This was bad as the view from where we were was supposed to be spectacular. After waking up, we ate breakfast and started on our very short hike to a cable car that we would take into Wengen. We took the short hike since it was very overcast and unpleasant that day. After we arrived in Wengen we had lots of time so we decided to get fondue lunch and then my dad and I headed over to Grindelwald for an activity. However, all of the things I wanted to do were sold out, so I ended up getting ice cream and sitting at a restaurant in Grindelwald with my dad. After going to Grindelwald, we headed back to the hotel for dinner and to sleep.

Day 8:

Our last day of hiking started with breakfast as usual and then we started our hike. Our hike consisted of a steep accent on a road for around 3 miles ending with what should have been a wonderful view, but was spoiled by the clouds. After the hike we went to lunch, which was fondue again, and then we took a cable car into Grindelwald. After arriving in Grindelwald, we went to our hotel and up to our room. After a short rest in our room, we headed down to dinner. After dinner we all celebrated our last day of hiking with a relaxing sleep.

Day 9:

Our last full day in Switzerland began with an early train ride to Geneva to see my dad’s old friend. After arriving in Geneva, my parents and I went to lunch next to the lake. After lunch, my dad’s friend picked us up on his boat at a dock and we went to swim in the lake off of the boat. Next, after being on the boat for a while, we went to my dad’s friends house for a delicious homemade dinner. After dinner, we went back to the hotel to get a good nights rest for our flight home the next day.
